Thursday May 28th at noon The Computer History Museum is hosting an open lecture by Massimo Banzi, co-founder of the Arduino project. He will cover the historical origins of Arduino, including discussion of the process of designing tools which make digital technology accessible to people who are not experts, and the essential role of the larger Arduino ecosystem that supports this remarkable computer platform.

The Computer History Museum, located in Mountain View (California), is a nonprofit organization  exploring the history of computing and its ongoing impact on society in the last 40 years. The Museum is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of computer history, it hosts the largest international collection of computing artifacts in the world and many virtual exhibition you can explore directly online.

If you like vintage images and history of computing, check the “visible storage” collection below.

Sustainable business, smarter living and social good – interested? Join us in London

Event, events, hackathon, hacking, london Comments Off on Sustainable business, smarter living and social good – interested? Join us in London

Hack the hackathon

Next week, we’ll be in London at Hack The Hackathon‘s developer competition to support the teams in experimenting with “smart” devices. After the great hackathon we had during the Arduino Camp in Torino, we’ll move to London for the 48-hour competition addressing an array of possible projects falling loosely into three broad challenge categories: Social Good, Sustainable Business, and Smarter Living.

The event (5th-7th July), hosted by the HUB Westminster in Piccadilly Circus, is:

designed for technical and non-technical innovators, designers, and engineers to build working prototypes, get fed, compete for prizes across different categories, work with expert mentors, meet new people, and scout for teammates to work on new or current projects.

If you are an innovator, designer, coder, information architect, and social media lover passionate about Learning, Exploring, Building, Sharing, and Mastering state-of-the-art technologies in a nurturing and exciting environment where everyone is a winner, then you should take this chance.

You can participate to the event with or without an idea or a project in mind. And don’t worry if you are coming by yourself, without a team already formed. The important thing is to register and arrive on time at the location hosting us for the weekend.

During the 48-hour developer competition, Hack The Hackathon will also host Africa Builds an exploratory information session and open discussion  to identify a core team of like-minded collaborators who want to inspire change among those most affected by and most able to combat the challenges facing the nations of Africa.

Federico Vanzati, one of our Arduino mentors, will be there and happy to meet you and show you all about Arduino. Looking forward to see you in London!

Check all the info and register to the free event here.

Sabato si celebra il coworking: Toolbox Festival a Torino

arduino, birthday, coworking, Event, events, Italiano, languages, Torino Comments Off on Sabato si celebra il coworking: Toolbox Festival a Torino

The Call For Makers Is Open! Are you ready to show and tell?

community, Event, events, MakerFaire, roma Comments Off on The Call For Makers Is Open! Are you ready to show and tell?

Maker Faire Rome 2013

Post originally published on the Maker Faire Rome official Blog by Massimo Banzi

If you are a maker living in Europe and you’ve been looking at the Makerfaire events with enthusiasm and wishing to be there, this is the moment to spring into action because The Call for Makers for the 1st Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition, is NOW open (until 2nd June 2013)!

The Call is the opportunity you have to submit your great project to the Maker Faire Team and become one of the protagonists of this amazing Show (and Tell) taking place next October in Rome.

We are welcoming projects from all over Europe because we believe that the power of innovation should not be limited by local bounds. Makers from all over the continent  are invited to take part and share their projects to all the lovers of the “do it yourself” spirit, connect and feel the empowerment of sharing.

Even if the main focus of the event is about highlighting the process of making things together, we are  also looking for performers and presenters who want to share their ideas and projects from a stage. Read carefully the call to snatch all the details.

If you’d like a bit of inspiration, stay tuned to our blog as in the next weeks we’ll be featuring some of the makers who have exhibited at previous Maker Faires.

And keep in mind that the deadline for submissions is Sunday 2nd June 2013.
Looking forward to being amazed by your projects and seeing you there!
