Casa Jasmina and Arduino are proud to announce a collaboration with Opendesk at Atelier Clerici during Fuorisalone 2015.

Atelier Clerici will host an independent project curated by Space Caviar and Z33, with a daily program of exhibitions and activities aimed at questioning the future of design in relation to architecture, technology and global context of living.

Opendesk, the online platform for open and smart design, will join Atelier Clerici with ‘Open Making Platform’ a series of events exploring issues related to open source design as a global and, at the same time, local practice. The program of  ‘Open Making Platform’ will include an exhibition of smart open designs made by local Italian makers and two workshops: ‘Design for Open Making’ (Wed April 15th, 11.30 am – 1.30 pm)and ‘Smart Furniture’ (Fri April 17th, 2 – 5.30 PM), in collaboration with Arduino.

Arduino and Casa Jasmina invite you to take part to the meetup and informal workshop focusing on the integration of open source connected technologies into everyday objects. Friday’s event will include a presentation by Bruce Sterling about the Casa Jasmina project.

Valcucine is making an open-call to select 10 individuals to participate in the 6-day event  during Salone del Mobile titled: The kitchen becomes OPEN! Scheduled from 6 to 11 April 2014 at Valcucine showroom in the heart of Milan, the workshop sees the participation of 10 designers selected following a call for ideas directed to planners, designers, makers, developers and programmers working in the field of design, as well as to students and enthusiasts at which time they will develop suggestions and new interactions in which to enhance the philosophies that have been employed in the realization of the Meccanica kitchen framework.

They will work alongside the dotdotdot design studio and team of experts. A set of meetings and debates are planned during the week which will be open to the public and to which important guests will be invited to share their knowledge, skill and experience: Massimo Menichinelli (open design facilitator), Enrico bassi (Fablab Torino coordinator, Stefano Maffei (professor at Politecnico Milano), Giulio Iacchetti (designer), Dario Buzzini (IDEO new york) and Zoe Romano (Digital Strategy and Wearables at Arduino).

The executable files of the project will be released in the open source mode, under the Creative Commons CC by–nc–sa license, with the permission to distribute, modify and create projects based on the original, except for business purposes, recognising the author’s paternity of the project.

The resulting projects will be exhibited from the evening of friday, April 11th at 6PM to sunday, April 13th, 2014.

Some people call it the “Etsy for hardware”, some other “the indie marketplace for open source hardware”, even if being open is not a requirement. Tindie’s mission consists of connecting the world’s small, hardware businesses with customers all over the world and today starts a cool initiative called Open Designs and Kickbacks. When sellers create a new product, they will be able to select a project the product is a derivative from, and enter the % of sales that will go to the open hardware project.

Some weeks ago Arduino announced in a blogpost about donating every year to projects which are part of the open source ecosystem because we are grateful to these efforts and want to support them and now we are happy to announce of being Tindie’s first partner in the Open Designs’ initiative.   Businesses that have built on top of Arduino boards can now send a portion of their sales back to Arduino, and help us further growing our efforts in supporting the open source community. If you happen to come to Milano this week the city is hosting a lot of events  organized in different locations for the 6-day Salone del Mobile dedicated mainly to furniture design but offering a lot of other initiatives taking place around 4 main areas like: the fair, Zona Tortona, VenturaLambrate and Brera.

In the last couple of years some events related to the makers’ culture have started to pop-up during the Salone and we have something coming up too!

Officine Arduino will be at Salone Satellite  (created in 1998 for the express purpose of bringing together  young designers under 35  and this 15th edition is putting the focus to ‘Design Technology’) with an installation called La Bottega Digitale where workshops, meetings and exhibition of 5 projects will show to visitors the digital-fabrication approach to design. Right near Zona Tortona also we co-organized with some friends We Make Open-Design, an event all focused on open-design. It’s going to exhibit 6 projects which have codes and schemes released on the web, made mostly with digital fabrication techniques , just like OpenMirror by DigitalHabits. (3 of the projects will be presented during Popupmakers Speciale Salone )

During the week will be offering free workshops on 3dprinting, Arduino Tinkerkit and Cut&Fold design. The week will end on Sunday with a final event dedicated to Makerfaire Rome.
